Under legislation planned for early next year, same-sex marriage will be legalized in the U.K., with the Church of England and other religious institutions supposedly free to "opt out" of performing homosexual marriages.

Notre Dame University has announced it will add an on-campus support group for homosexual, transgender, and other sexually confused students.

A recent study out of Denmark appears to show a higher incidence of premature death among women who have had an abortion than for women who give birth. The study tracked a group of Danish women over a 25-year period, finding that those who had undergone a single abortion had a 45 percent higher mortality rate over that time period than those who had carried babies to full term. The death rate among women rose dramatically for subsequent abortions, with women who had two abortions having a 114 percent greater likelihood of mortality during the study period, and women with three or more abortions facing a 192 percent chance of premature death.

As expected, the U.S. Supreme Court announced it will hear a pair of cases that will impact the future of marriage in America. What now?

Apparently the Central Intelligence Agency is looking for a new style of agent. According to a National Public Radio report, as “part of the CIA's efforts to diversify its workforce, the spy agency is reaching out to a group that once was unable to get security clearance — lesbians and gay men.”

The leader of the American Humanist Association has a request for new members of Congress: Don't join the Congressional Prayer Caucus because it “discriminates against non-religious Americans.” In a letter to incoming legislators, released shortly after the November 6 elections, the group's director, Roy Speckhardt, complained that some of the over 100 members of the Caucus, founded in 2005 by Congressman Randy Forbes (R-N.C.), “have repeatedly introduced and supported legislation that we feel is unconstitutional and often favors religious institutions and individuals over non-religious institutions and individuals.”

Officials in a North Carolina school district are being called to task after they forced a first grader to remove references to God from a poem she had written to honor her grandfather, a Vietnam war veteran.

In a ray of hope for traditional marriage, a federal judge has upheld a state constitutional amendment in Nevada that defines marriage as only between a man and a woman. The pro-family victory comes just as the U.S. Supreme Court is considering whether or not to decide the fate of two landmark marriage laws — the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California's Proposition 8, both of which have been ruled unconstitutional by federal appeals courts.

A pair of aging lesbians, one of them a West Point graduate and homosexual activist, were “married” December 1 at the military academy's Protestant Cadet Chapel, the first homosexual couple allowed to hold such a ceremony in the sacred and historic building.
